Mossy Dell Farm is proud of its role in helping Katahdin hair sheep transform America's commercial ewe base. Our Katahdins are selected for: Ewe productivity and mothering ability on pasture; enhanced internal parasite resistance; and lamb growing ability on forage. Please see Our Breeding Objectives page for more detailed information. Mossy Dell Farm participates in the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP), which provides computer analysis of animal performance. We receive Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) on all rams, ewes, and lambs. Our flock also is enrolled in the voluntary Scrapie Flock Certification Program (SFCP). We DNA test at Codon 171 all ram lambs sold for breeding to assess their level of genetic resistance to scrapie. Katahdins are adaptable, easily managed sheep. We are striving for excellent maternal and growth traits as well. We are pasture-based and select our sheep for performance on forage, which is an abundant resource here in the Appalachian hill region of southeastern Ohio. We sell registered, recorded, and commercial ram and ewe lambs for breeding stock in the fall. Sometimes we offer mature ewes in late summer after lambs are weaned. Occasionally we have yearling and mature rams for sale.
